Washington, DC– President Barack Obama today announced the creation of a White House Task Force on Middle Class Working Families to be chaired by Vice President Joe Biden. The Task Force is a major initiative targeted at raising the living standards of middle-class, working families in America. It is prised of top-level administration policy makers, and in addition to regular meetings, it will conduct outreach sessions with representatives of labor, business, and the advocacy munities.

编者按：日前，继美国教育考试服务中心(ETS)宣布即将在2006年5月在中国大陆推出新托福考试的消息后，ETS又其官方网站正式公布，将在2006年10月首次推出经过改革后的新GRE常规测试。新GRE常规测试是ETS在美国研究生院为代表的教育界的指导下，经四年研究而完成的，是GRE实施55年来最为重要的一次变革。培训高分学员最多的北京新东方学校国外部GRE教学专家在第一时间剖析了新GRE考试变化并本着对考生负责的态度，以最快的速度推出本系列文章，以使考生能够从容地应对GRE的变革。

根据(美国教育考试中心ETS)网站提供的信息，ETS除了在2005年推出新托福以外(中国大陆地区计划在明年)，同时正在计划于2006年10月开始对GRE考试进行一项较大的改革，新的变化将体现在语文和数学两部分，使GRE考试能够更准确、科学地反映考试者的能力。这只能解读为在 留学考试市场竞争日趋激烈的背景下，ETS正在试图通过一系列的变革来巩固自己在留学考试市场中的地位。而这次改革对中国考生带来的直接后果更多是心理上的而非像2002年10月机考改革所产生的毁灭性打击。对于中国同学业已与之奋斗了3年多的作文部分更是没有太多悬念。

The 15th day of the 1st lunar month is the Chinese Lantern Festival because the first lunar month is called yuan-month and in the ancient times people called night Xiao. The 15th day is the first night to see a full moon. So the day is also called Yuan Xiao Festival in China.
